A boutique hotel here means a small building with its own look, not a 200-room chain block and not a private-pool villa estate. The search that keeps showing up is “best boutique hotels in Koh Samui.” The luxury list on this site already says the big five-star names are a different page. This one is the smaller set.
The hotel I would open first, if the point is Fisherman’s Village rather than a resort driveway, is Hacienda Fisherman’s Village: 19 rooms, on the village street in Bophut. Hansar Samui is the beachfront hotel a short walk west, and it scores higher. They are not the same stay.

Hacienda is the village hotel. Nineteen rooms, an upper-deck pool, a restaurant, and a beach measurement that Agoda publishes twice and does not agree with itself. The overall score is 8.7. The location grade is 9.3. Room comfort is 6.7. Read that before you treat the photos as the whole story.
Hansar is what people mean when they say a boutique hotel on Bo Phut Beach: smaller than a mega-resort, still 74 rooms, renovated in 2024, and the review count is in the thousands. The Library is the red-pool design hotel people already know, and it sits by Chaweng Night Market, not on a beach pin I could verify. Rocky’s carries “boutique” in the name and is a 10-minute walk from Lamai Beach, not a step onto it.

Hacienda: 19 rooms on the village street
Hacienda Fisherman’s Village is at 6/1 Moo 1, Fisherman’s Village, Bo Phut, 84320. Agoda’s map pin is 9.55971, 100.03290, and the address is not obfuscated. It opened in 2012. The most recent renovation is also listed as 2012. Three gold stars, and Agoda says those stars are supplied by the property.
Check-in is from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Check-out is until 12:00 PM. Reception is listed until 8:00 PM, an hour before the last check-in. If you land late, that gap is the fact to read twice.
The room names on the listing, with no sizes attached, are Exclusive Suite, Suite with Beach Front, Deluxe Suite with private terrace on the beach, Deluxe Sea View with Balcony, Sea View Deluxe Room with Balcony, Standard Sea view with balcony, Deluxe Village View with Balcony, and Standard City View. I am not going to invent square metres.
Bo Phut Beach is 10 m on the nearby-landmark list. Lompraya Pier is 190 m. Bo Phut Pier is 390 m. The Fisherman’s Village landmark, the walking-street point, is 230 m, which sounds odd when the address already says Fisherman’s Village. It is a second pin, not a second hotel. Big Buddha is 3.2 km. Central Festival is 4.38 km.
Samui Airport is 3.53 km on the essentials pin, about 12 minutes at the duration Agoda prints (741 seconds). The useful-info block says 15 minutes and a transfer fee of 400 THB. Breakfast is 254 baht unless the rate includes it. Infants 0–1 and children 2–11 stay free on existing bedding. A cot may cost extra. From 12, Agoda counts the guest as an adult.
The score split matters. Location 9.3 and cleanliness 9.0 are doing the work. Facilities are 8.0. Room comfort and quality is 6.7, below the 3-star city average Agoda shows beside it. Service on the sub-score is 9.1. I did not stay here. The photos show the upper-deck pool, the blue-roofed building, the restaurant and a handful of rooms. They do not fix a 6.7 room grade.
A car park is listed, and Agoda says charges may apply. I am not calling it free.
There is a second small hotel on this beach, The Waterfront Hotel at Fisherman’s Village. On the same day it was 3 stars, 8.3 from 284 reviews, Bo Phut Beach 50 m, the village landmark 320 m, reception until 6:00 PM. Agoda did not print a room count. I would not put it above Hacienda on the score, and I would not pretend the score is close to Hansar.
Hansar: the beachfront one
Hansar Samui is 101/28 Moo 1, Bo Phut. Five stars, 74 rooms, three floors, opened in 2010, renovated in 2024. Bo Phut Beach 10 m, and Agoda also tags a private beach. Fisherman’s Village is 700 m, so the Friday walking street is a walk, not the doorstep.

This is the pick when “boutique” means a designed beach hotel and you still want the sand in front of the pool. It is not a 19-room guesthouse. The Bophut area guide is the neighbourhood around both of these.
The Library: Chaweng, and not a beach figure
The Library is the other name people type when they want a small design hotel. Address on Agoda: 14/1 Moo 2, Bophut, Chaweng, 84320. Five stars, 46 rooms, two floors, opened in 2007. Score 9.1 from 1,466. Check-in from 2:00 PM, check-out until 12:00 PM. Airport transfer 650 baht, about 15 minutes. Breakfast 883 baht if not included. Two restaurants, two bars. Outdoor pool. Wi-Fi fee 0.
The nearby list I read puts Chaweng Night Market at 60 m. It does not print a metre for Chaweng Beach. I am not going to borrow one from an old article. If the sand is the requirement, this is the wrong line in the table. If the requirement is a known design hotel you can walk to the night market from, it is the right one.

Rocky’s: boutique in the name, Lamai in the pin
Rocky’s Boutique Resort is 438/1 Moo 1, Maret, Lamai. The Agoda name includes Veranda Collection. 4.5 stars, 70 rooms, two floors, opened in 2003, renovated in 2020. Score 9.1 from 1,604. Lamai Beach is 790 m on both the popular and nearby landmark lists. That is a walk or a short ride, not front-row.
Check-in from 2:00 PM, check-out until 12:00 PM, reception until 11:59 PM. Breakfast 683 baht if not included. Airport transfer 900 baht, about 20 minutes. Samui Airport is 11.36 km on the pin. Two restaurants, two bars. Wi-Fi fee 0.
Use it when you want Lamai’s beach and a smaller resort than the big blocks, and you have already accepted you are not on the sand. The Lamai comparison is Lamai beach hotels.
When the price actually moves
Koh Samui does not follow Phuket’s calendar. The wet season on this coast builds through October and peaks in November, and early December is still the tail of it. The month-by-month version on this site is best time to visit Koh Samui. November is the wettest month. October is close behind. February is the driest. Late December is not “still the wet season” in the way October is: the month splits, and Christmas week is the busy, expensive end.
What that means for a booking:
- Late December through April is when sea-view rooms and anything described as beachfront go first. Christmas, New Year and February are the dates to book ahead. A free-cancellation rate locks the price you see today. I am not quoting a nightly rate, and I am not inventing a percentage off.
- July and August are not the wet season here. The Gulf is mostly usable, with afternoon showers, while the Andaman coast is in its monsoon. August gets a mid-year bump from European summer holidays. It is busier than June. It is not the same spike as Christmas week.
- October, November and early December are the wet, quieter months. That is when a lower rate is easiest to find. Booking “early for peak season” does not describe these months. East-coast swimming is the thing that suffers, and Ang Thong Marine Park usually closes from about 1 November to mid-December.
If you did not actually want a small hotel
Best hotels in Koh Samui is the wider shortlist, including Conrad and the hillside pool villas. A 19-room village hotel will not win that page, and it should not. If the brief is a kids’ club, this list is the wrong one too.

When should I book? For late December through April, book ahead and use a free-cancellation rate if you want to lock today’s price. Sea-view and beachfront categories go first. July and August are a second busy patch, not Samui’s rainy season. October through early December is the wet stretch, and that is when rates are easier.
