Samui's landmark, and the first thing you see flying in — a 12-metre golden Buddha on a small island off the northeast coast, reached by a short causeway. Climb the naga staircase for the view back over Bang Rak bay, ring the bells along the terrace, and browse the stalls and food at the base. It's a working temple, so cover your shoulders and knees. Free to visit. Come early or near sunset, when the gold catches the light and the tour coaches have thinned out.
